2023, Work on your growth story!
The first step towards change is awareness. The second is acceptance.
Everyone has a unique reason for being part of the RethinkingUX community, but we are all united by a common goal: to give back. A huge thank you to our Rethinking Heroes! We've achieved a lot together and couldn't have done it without you. This year promises even more, and we'll do it together.
By the time you're 17 years old, you've heard “No, you can't” an average of 150,000 times. You've heard, “Yes, you can,” 5,000 times. That's thirty no’s for every yes. That makes for a powerful belief of “I can't.”
One of the most beautiful words in any language is "potential". It looks forward with optimism, filled with hope and promising success. It implies fulfilment and hints at the greatness of an individual.
On average, I connect with 50+ new professionals each month from UX design, product, business, marketing, content, analytics, HR, and more. In addition to other topics, I almost always encourage them to speak up, write, and build their brand. Unfortunately, I often fail to convince them. A few see the potential and long-term value; many either ignore or are inconsistent.
Looking back, I see the following as the main reason behind the "I can't" attitude.
👉 The Knowledge Gap — I don't know how to grow.
👉 The Timing Gap — It is not the right time to begin.
👉 The Mistake Gap — I'm afraid of making mistakes.
👉 The Perfection Gap — I must find the best way before starting.
👉 The Inspiration Gap — I don't feel like doing it.
Motivation increases after you start, making it easier to keep going.” A few todo’s this year can be:
★ Stop comparing yourself to others
★ Moving away from limiting beliefs.
★ Add value to others.
★ Do the right thing, even if it's the hard thing.
★ Practice a small discipline daily in a specific area of your life.
★ Embrace a positive vision for your life based on what you value.
Happy to hear your views on what’s stopping your acquaintance from overcoming the “I can’t” attitude”. Comment below.
